Chadar Trek is a popular adventure activity
for tourists visiting Ladakh. It involves hiking on the frozen Zanskar River,
which provides endless opportunities for camping and skiing. The thrilling walk
becomes challenging for trekkers when the Zanskar River freezes over; though
treks in India are well known, Chadar Trek is one of the most beautiful treks
because you walk on the frozen river. The best time to hike Chadar Trek is
mid-January to end-February when most groups trek this frozen river.
Some Places To Visit Near The Chadar Trek:-
GURUDWARA PATHAR SAHIB
Gurudwara
Pathar Sahib, a sacred place where Guru Nanak Dev ji is believed to have
conquered a demon. The legend has it that once Guru Nakak ji was meditating at
this place and a demon had thrown a big rock to obstruct his prayers but the
boulder turned into soft wax that failed to harm him, seeing this the demon
asked for penance for his deed and Guru Nanak ji forgave him. The boulder with
the imprint of the body of Guru Nanak Dev and the footprint of the demon is on
display in Gurdwara Pathar Sahib.
Magnetic Hill
When you travel around Leh-Ladakh, you will come across many fascinating sights that arouse your curiosity. One such sight is Magnetic Hill, a place where gravity takes a backseat. When you reach Magnetic Hill, you'll see a yellow sign on the road marked with "The Phenomenon That Defies Gravity." It also instructs you to park your vehicles in the box marked with a white point on the road. When parked at this spot, vehicles begin moving forward at a speed of almost 20 km/h.
Confluence
Of Zanskar & Indus
It's not often that you can say that a place
has never failed to captivate you. But Ladakh has managed this feat—with lofty
snow-capped mountains, rugged terrains and deep valleys, this union territory
in the Trans-Himalayan region of India is one of the highest and most
picturesque destinations in the country. While there are so many fascinating
spots in this region that can catch your eye, nothing can beat the view of the
river confluence of Zanskar and Indus.
The green-tinged Indus river originates in the
Tibetan Plateau near the Manasarovar range, whereas the blue Zanskar has its
source in the Zanskar valley. The rivers join together near Nimmu, a scenic
valley located between Leh and Kargil. During spring-summer months (March to
May), you can see their color contrast best from this point.
Pangong Tso Lake
There is an awesome lake called Pangong Tso in
Leh, a tourist attraction on the Changtang plateau in the eastern Ladakh
region. The lake offers an awesome site for camping and is currently a hotspot
for all people making it one of the best places to visit in Ladakh. To avoid
crowds, you can visit this place during the off-season when it freezes over
completely. During winter, it’s one of the best places to visit in Leh because
it’s totally frozen over.
